Despite best efforts, - I saw a little of this farce on tv yesterday. Apparently several main polluters such as Russia and that other one - China are not even bothering to show up. If so, - can anyone explain what is the point?

I don't always agree with Peter Hitchens these days, but on the subject of throwing away our coal-fired power stations whilst china builds many more - I couldn't agree more (in fact I've been banging this particular drum for years), and this is precisely the argument people should use when those morons on the other side of the debate try to argue that " well we must start somewhere", or "not doing anything because china isn't, is not an option" (yes it very much is): "Our decision to abandon coal-fired power when China is vastly expanding its coal-burning generation is futile and absurd, for instance. In fact the Western world’s self-harming methods, while China blithely continues as before, are the economic equivalent of one-sided disarmament. We hope to persuade an arrogant, aggressive dictatorship to be nice by giving up our own power and wealth, and abandoning our own freedom to act independently. It will not end well."hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk/
